Since we set off on this walk, quite a few friends – and people following the blog – have messaged to ask about the walking poles we’re using. So, we thought it was time to give them a proper mention, because honestly, they’ve been absolutely brilliant.

Why We’d Recommend Them

We’ve walked on all sorts of terrain so far – gravel paths, woods and forests, stones and rocks, sand – and these poles have been like a third and fourth leg. They’ve given us extra balance, helped with posture, and taken some of the pressure off our knees, especially on long descents.

These poles have an anti-shock system built in, which sounds a bit gimmicky but actually works. You really notice the difference in your wrists and arms on long days – there’s less impact and jarring, especially going downhill or walking on hard surfaces.

They’re nice and light, and they collapse down into three sections – perfect when we’re not using them and want to strap them to our packs. Adjusting the height is quick and easy, and they feel really solid when extended. No wobbling or slipping, which is what you want when you’re trusting them to take your weight on uneven ground.

They come with different tips and baskets for various terrains – snow, mud, rocky paths – which is a nice touch. Even though we haven’t needed all of them yet, it’s good to know we’re prepared.
