After 11 days of walking (and one glorious rest day), we thought we’d give a few stats about our journey on the South West Coast Path so far – from Minehead to Bude. It’s been, brutal, hilarious, emotional and everything in between. Here’s a look at the adventure in numbers – and a few fun comparisons to show just how far we’ve come…
Total Days Walking: 11 (plus 1 rest day)
Total Miles Walked: Approx. 125 miles
That’s roughly the same as walking from London to Birmingham!
Elevation Gained: Over 21,000 feet
That’s three-quarters the height of Mount Everest 🏔️
Calories Burned (each): Around 35,000+
Equivalent to 140 jam doughnuts (yes, we’ve earned a few).
Steps Taken: Over 275,000 steps
That’s like walking the entire length of the Great Wall of China… one brick at a time.
Blisters Avoided: Miraculously, almost all of them
Socks and good vibes – the real MVPs.
Coffees Consumed: Countless
Enough to power a small village.
Times We Thought ‘Whose Idea Was This?’: 14 (minimum)
Times Tracey Said ‘Imagine living there….’: Lost count.
Time Matt Said ‘How did you convince me to do this?’: Lost count.
Favourite Surprise Stops: Fremington Quay Café… and every sock change!
Wildlife Spotted:
- Dozens of chirping chaffinches
- An adder!
- A Kestrel or two
- Llamas (odd, but true!)
- Snails, slugs, butterflies, beetles etc… the usual suspects
- Curious cows and confused sheep
- The occasional seal
- A very chilled Anton (not wildlife, but worth mentioning again)
TV Watched During Rest Day:
- Corrie
- Dexter: Original Sin
- The Last Kingdom
Because even Vikings need a break.
Favourite Soundtrack Moment: Chaffinches singing us across clifftops on Day 10 🎶
Most Unexpected Item in Our Accommodation: A jigsaw puzzle.
